Grace Gentry traveled to Manchester over last weekend to compete in the National Sportshall Athletics Championships as part of the U15 Girls Hertfordshire Team that had qualified from the regional finals, held at Hatfield a few months earlier, and not only came away as the team’s top points scorer, but collected a Silver and a Bronze, together with a new personal best in another of her events, whilst taking the Team to the third spot in the team competition.
Her three chosen events were the 4 Lap Race, Shot Putt and Standing Long Jump. In her 4 lap race she was up against another of England’s promising young athletes from Sussex, Amber Anning, who is already rated number one in a number of track and field events that Grace competes in, and Grace came close to challenging her, only missing out by 3 points to take the individual title, but ended up taking the Silver Medal.
In the Standing Long Jump, Grace came close to another medal finishing FOURTH overall, and whilst disappointed not to claim one, her points tally placed in a strong position in the overall individual competition. Her final event was the Shot Putt another event she has been improving in, and is one she regularly competes in for her combined event competitions, and in this she produced a new personal best of 9.89m, which placed her NINTH overall in that event, but more importantly gave her the points tally, that took her to claim the Bronze medal in the overall individual combined competition.
A Great weekend on Competitions and Results with Club Records and
Personal Bests being set by a number of athletes
Our athletes competed in three competitions over the weekend and collected a number of new personal bests and there were a few Club Records into the bargain. It was the first matches where our joint team of the HAWCS and Enfield were in competition, firstly at the Southern Athletic League at Picketts Lock on the Saturday, and then the Eastern Young Athletes League at Thurrock on the Sunday. Also on Sunday was the first of the London Inter-Club Challenges, also held at Picketts Lock, where a few of our athletes competed. A full set of results, with personal bests and Club Records will be sent out shortly.
